Our Island Ecosystems
February 24 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
ALL AGES WELCOME
The event welcomes learners of all ages to explore the fascinating ecosystems that make our islands so unique. Botanical and conservation experts will lead presentations and hands-on interactive stations that encourage thoughtful relationships with our natural resources and environments.
Come and see rare botanical specimens no longer found in the wild, transplant native saplings for reforestation, extract plant seeds for a seed bank, try your hand at art-making processes using natural materials, learn about the island’s water systems with an interactive map, and hear stories from conservationists about their extensive efforts to care for the wondrous flora and fauna of Maui’s ecosystem.
Participating Organizations Include:
- East Maui Watershed Partnership
- Hawaiʻi Plant Extinction Prevention Program
- Hawaiʻi Snail Extinction Prevention Program
- Maui County Stormwater Program
- Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project
- Maui Native Nursery
- Treecovery
Exhibiting artist Zach Pezzillo will be in the gallery to share about his work photographing endemic species. Other offerings include lei-making and weaving activities with Lauren Shearer and Pōhaku Kahoʻohanohano, as well as a large-scale moku puzzle of Maui.
