Lau Ke Aloha: Hawaiʻi Games & Kinolau Native Species Art Creation Day

August 17, 2025 @ 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us for Lau Ke Aloha: Hawaiʻi Games & Kinolau Native Species Art Creation Day on Sunday, August 10!

This free, family-friendly event invites our Maui community to connect with native species through play and creativity. We’ll start the day with traditional pāʻani Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian games) to unwind and have fun, followed by hands-on art sessions led by local Maui artists. Each session highlights a different native plant, offering a creative way to deepen your pilina with ʻāina and native species.

Schedule of Activities:

Pāʻani Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian Games) 2:00 – 5:00 P.M.
🌿 Come play a selection of Pāʻani Hawaiʻi including ʻulu maika, paheʻe, hukihuki, and ihe

Art Sessions 3:30 – 5:00 P.M.
🌿 Makai! Drawing Wiliwiliʻs Ocean Forms with Brissa Christophersen
🌿 Team Saplings! Wiliwili Beginnings in Watercolor with Maggie Sutrov

Art Sessions 5:30 – 7:00 P.M.
🌿 Mauka! Drawing a Wiliwili Awesome Forest with Brissa Christophersen
🌿 Celebrating Wiliwili Blooming Season in Watercolor with Maggie Sutrov

We are focusing on the 3 special native species in our flyer, lobelia gloria-montis, koa, and wiliwili, because of the relationship Malama Kahālāwai, Uhiwai o Haleakalā, and our ʻŌiwi Resources & Stewardship Team have with them.
