Japanese Lessons for Kids

An event every week that begins at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, repeating until February 21, 2017
Learning a new language expands your child’s horizons and enables him/her to communicate with more people in the world.
Let your child learn Japanese with Akari Ueoka, who is a former teacher at the Roots School and Haiku Elementary School.
Grades K to 2 – Tuesdays from 3 to 4 pm
Grades 3 to 6 – Thursdays from 3 to 4 pm
This is a 6-week series, starting the week of 1/16/2017 (no drop-ins permitted).
Located at Roots School (740 Haiku Road)
Each class is limited to 8 students
$125 for 6 lessons (includes supplies)

Children will learn the following items through songs, games, worksheets, and activities
(contents are subject to change):
Hiragana (Japanese alphabets) and how the Hiragana system is organized
Long and short vowels
How to write one’s name in Japanese
Basic greetings
Ko, So, A, Do words (words based on the physical distance from the speaker and the listener)
How to ask, “What is it?” and to answer in a simple sentence
How to ask, “Where is ____?” and to answer in a simple sentence
How to ask, “Whose is it?” and to answer in a simple sentence
How to make possessive nouns
Numbers
Months
Days of the week
Colors
Body parts
Vocabulary for common items that we use/see daily
Distinguishing the verbs: arimasu and imasu (to be)
Japanese games
Japanese onomatopoeias
Japanese culture (clothing, food, architecture, etc.)
The level of complexity will be adjusted to each group (Grades K to 2 and Grades 3 to 6).
