Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

November 12, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

Come and join us on Sunday, November 12th, from 4 pm to 7 pm, at the Cameron Center Courtyard for our inaugural Day of the Dead Celebration! Enjoy delicious food, lively music, and entertaining activities for the kids. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chair, blankets, and your most creative calavera/catrina outfits and makeup for a family-friendly event. We’ll also have a brief all souls procession, so remember to bring your candles!

Dating back over 3000 years, the rituals of Día de los Muertos find their origins in the reverence shown by indigenous peoples such as the Olmecs, Toltecs, Mixtecs, Zapotecs, Maya, and Aztecs towards their departed loved ones. The echoes of those who have passed linger in our collective memory, becoming particularly resonant on this sacred occasion. Death, far from being a finality, is recognized as an integral part of life’s eternal cycle, and during this celebration, the realms of the living and the departed converge.
