ʻOhe Hano Ihu & Pūʻohe Workshop with Gayle Miyaguchi
January 13 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Participants will learn the uses and stories behind the ‘ohe hano ihu (nose flute) and pū‘ohe (bamboo trumpet). Then they will make their own instruments and learn how to play them. This workshop is family-friendly. The minimum age is 5 years old. All keiki must be accompanied by an adult. Limit 2 keiki per adult.
Instructor Gayle Miyaguchi grew up in Makawao and spent her childhood years on the family farm in Kula. In 1994, with this background in agriculture and her methods of growing ipu (gourds), she was able to create a business which handcrafts hula implements. Her years as a hula dancer also gave Miyaguchi an understanding of how each instrument was used and today she enjoys sharing her knowledge and experiences.
