Did you know that a horse can get a sunburn on it’s nose, and that they too
need sunscreen just like us? Yup, they do! Don’t worry, I didn’t know that either, that is until I spent the morning at The Lahaina Animal Farm with my two kids, age three and six. That’s just one of many many things we learned in the jammed-packed morning tour of the West Maui farm. It was a “fun, get your hands dirty and learn some cool stuff while your at it” kind of experience. One that left my kids talking about it long after it ended. In fact, they still do. The magic of Lahaina Animal Farm Perched on the tadalis brand sx hills of Launiupoko, with a world class view of Lahaina town, Lanai and passing whales in the winter, the Lahaina Animal Farm is home to horses (both huge and miniature), goats and sheep, tadpoles and turtles and egg laying chickens. There are also roosters, fish and geese. Oh my! Just a short jaunt above Highway 30, when you arrive to the animal farm you’ll find yourself in a whole different kind of Maui. There’s something so
majestic about a horse standing on a grass covered volcanic mountain with the blue Pacific ocean behind it, that makes my heart go pitter patter.

A little dirt will do ya good A visit to the Lahaina Animal Farm is a hands-on experience. The staff offer the perfect mix of teaching with fun and they encourage the kids to get dirty and up close and personal with the animals. From feeding carrots to the four legged friends, to fishing for tadpoles, the kids absolutely loved being able to dive into their surroundings. They even got to sit front and center for a turtle race, cheering for their favorite hard shelled reptile. (don’t be fooled, those turtles can go faster than you think!) All along the way the kids are being taught about what they are experiencing. They take away knowledge and a deeper understanding of where that egg they ate for breakfast came from. They leave wanting to stay longer, and that’s always a good sign!
