Prepare to Eat Local

This year’s Eat Local Challenge is focused on our keiki and instilling an understanding of where their food comes from and how it’s produced. Hawai’i imports 85-90% of its food and it’s time to break our dependence on imported food by identifying and supporting our local farmers and home-grown value-added products. From September 12th-18th, comitt to eating only locally made and grown foods and involve your keiki!!! Start the prep this weekend by stopping at your local farmer’s market. Grab the latest Maui Family Magazine for the bingo card pictured above. For ideas and resources for the week, join the challenge here: https://www.facebook.com/events/381755866635125 (And for more inspiration, read Connection to Community & ʻĀina)

Show Off Your Keiki’s Favorite Foods

In our upcoming Winter issue distributed this November through January, we are asking parents to send in photos of their keiki eating or preparing their favorite foods for our special photo spread “Raising Keiki Maui Style.” Email your photos to [email protected] by September 20th and you may see it printed in the magazine.

Reach Out to Someone

With Covid-19 cases on the rise, we want to encourage everyone to be mindful this Labor Day Weekend. We all have someone we know that is suffering from affects of the pandemic, whether it’s a family quarantining due to their child being exposed at school or a friend that may be recovering at home. No matter our differences, show your aloha! Call and check in on a family member or prepare meals or drop off groceries at a friend that is quarantining. Bring flowers to someone and raiser their spirits. Our community needs to lift each other up!
