Celebrate Poetry, Art, and Storytelling

Ten Hawai‘i public libraries are joining libraries across the state in participating in The Big Read Hawai‘i; A celebration of Poetry, Art, and Storytelling including Lāhainā and Molokai here on Maui.

Register now for free online events inspired by Joy Harjo’s “An American Sunrise” including book readings, discussions with authors and artists, slam poetry and nature writing workshops, film screening, and more. The Kick-Off Event on Saturday, March 12 features Kealoha, Solomon Enos, Connie Florez, Lee A. Tonouchi, and other presenters. Celebrations continue with Chris Caravalho, Caren Loebel-Fried, Kai Kaulukukui, Brandy Nālani McDougall, Craig Santos Perez, Susan Schultz, and other presenters.

Visit Whalers Village for Whale Wednesdays with Hawai’i Wildlife Discovery Center

If you haven’t checked out the new Hawai’i Wildlife Discovery Center, spring break is a perfect time to do it! Kids of any age will enjoy the exhibits, artwork, and interactive media, plus walk away with tips on how to be a better steward for the envrionment. BONUS: If you go on a Wednesday between 10am-noon, visit with naturalists from the Hawai’i Wildlife Discovery Center at the beach front o f Whalers Village and learn all about humpback whales and their annual migration to Maui.

Enjoy Live Music with new Wailea Wednesdays

If you haven’t been to The Shops at Wailea lately, bring the family by! The center was updated with new seating and places for kids to let out their energy. The Shops at Wailea also debuted Wailea Wednesdays, a live music event series featuring local musicians, last week. Now, guests can pau hana and enjoy live entertainment by a new artist every Wednesday from 4:30-6pm. See below for the upcoming schedule.
