Teen Expo: Fun, Safe, Informative Day for Teens Coming September 10th

Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui, in partnership with the County of Maui, Kiwanis International and Maui Tropical Plantation, are excited to announce the first Teen Expo to be held on Saturday, September 10, at Maui Tropical Plantation.

“I’ve always wanted to do something just for the teens in our community. And when I started talking to other groups to put together the Teen Expo, I found that they agreed – there’s a huge gap in services for teens in Maui County.  So many people got on board to help, it’s been really exciting.  I know it will be a fun, informative, positive day for our teens,” said Kelly Pearson, Director of Operations for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui, and lead coordinator of the event.

The free event began as a way to reward students who graduated from Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui’s Positive Action alcohol use prevention program, conducted last spring at middle schools across Maui, and to share the program information with more young people.  Through the planning process it has grown to be a way to link teens and their families to healthy, wholesome products and services, with emphasis on prevention of teen underage drinking, character building and Positive Action.  Designed for teens 13-20 the event will run from 11:00a.m. to 4:00p.m.

Featured entertainment is The Green, the popular reggae group from Oahu.  Other entertainment includes 808 Vibez, Righteous Youth, Paukukalo Homestead. There will also be door prizes and an ice cream eating contest.  Food booths and teen-friendly product and service providers will be on hand

Presented by Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui, the County of Maui, Kiwanis International and  Maui Tropical Plantation.  This is a drug, alcohol, & tobacco free event. Bring your own lawn chairs & umbrellas.   Free Youth transportation will be provided to the event by MEO.

Teen Expo:  Free, Saturday, September 10, 11:00a.m. – 4:00p.m. at Maui Tropical Plantation.  For more information and to see the transportation schedule, go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui website at www.bgcm.org.
