SeaWees is a program for children ages 3-5 that has been offered through Pacific Whale Foundation since 2004. The SeaWees program features developmentally appropriate early-childhood practice including music/movement, demonstrations and guided exploration delivered in a child-centered environment. Each child is accompanied to SeaWees by his or her parent or caregiver. SeaWees sessions consists of three classroom sessions and one “SEAfari” field adventure organized around a marine science theme. SeaWees classes meet on Wednesday mornings from 9:00-10:00 am at Pacific Whale Foundation’s Discovery Center at the Ma’alaea Harbor Shops unless otherwise noted.
From October 30 to November 20, we’ll be exploring the theme of “Slow, Faster, Fastest.” We’ll explore what is speed? Is it better to be fast or slow? When would you need speed on land and in the sea? Just a few questions we will explore through song, movement and rhythm the motions of the many animals living in the deep blue sea. We will learn the role of body shapes and body parts to reveal the secrets behind the speedy and the slow, the hiders and the seekers.
Our SeaWees schedule for this session is:
Wednesday October 30, 2013 – Moving for Speed on the Reef
Wednesday November 6, 2013 – Life Functions of Fast
Wednesday November 13, 2013 – Speed as a Last Resort
Wednesday November 20, 2013 – How Fast is Fast? – “SEAfari” to Ma’alaea Harbor
Our next SeaWees session begins on November and will be based on the theme, “Seaside Storybook Science..” It will continue until December 18 and includes a SEAfari field trip to explore tidepools.
