The waters of Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary protects one of the world’s most important humpback whale habitats. Each year between November and April, more than half of the North Pacific humpback whale population – over 10,000 whales – make their way from their feeding grounds in Alaska to the warm waters of Hawaiʻi to mate, give birth, and nurse their young.

Starting this year, the sanctuary’s Visitor Center in Kīhei will be open the last Saturday of every month. Situated on the south shore of Maui with picturesque views, the center offers exhibits, interactive displays, keiki activities, and more, with the aim to teach people about humpback whales and their habitat in Hawaiʻi.

During Sanctuary Saturday, guests can enjoy storytime, craft activities, or a stroll the outside observation deck overlooking sanctuary waters and a view of the fishpond, often frequented by sea turtles.

Bring the whole family for a day of fun and learning from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on the last Saturday of every month.
