Tree-Cycle Options

Pick-ups:
The Boy Scouts are doing pick-ups for $10 donations in the Wailuku 281-7139, Kihei 874-8450 areas. Call to reserve. The Hawaiian Volleyball Team is doing the same upcountry 283-8999.

Free drop off: The only places to take trees are at EKO compost at the Central Maui Landfill between 6am – 3pm Mon-Sat and the Olowalu transfer station 8am – 2:30pm Mon-Sat. I also see from the attached flier that folks can take trees to the Longs in Kihei for a $5 donation but I would not tell them this myself but refer them to call first as I do not know how long this option is available and from my experience folks will drop off trees for months after Christmas.

The Boy Scouts are Making Recycling Your Christmas Tree Easy and Convenient!

Did you know that over one hundred thousand evergreen trees are imported to Hawai’i every year for Christmas?  The Boy Scouts are encouraging all Maui residents to recycle their Christmas trees this year rather than taking them to the landfill.  Even Christmas trees that look dry are still very useful!

The Boy Scouts are doing their part to protect Maui’s landfills and the environment by setting up a tree recycling center to chip the trees into fragrant wood chips or compost that can be used to spruce up your landscaping and use in your garden.

South Kihei residents are encouraged to take advantage of Troop #22 Boy Scouts’ curbside Christmas tree collection service.  This program is a convenient way to recycle Christmas trees and  support your local Boy Scout Troop too!  Trees must be free of decorations, including tinsel, lights, ornaments, wire and flocking, before they can be recycled.

On Saturday, January 5th, curbside pick-up is available for a suggested donation of $10 per tree.  Please make a reservation by January 4th by calling 874-8450 please leave your name, phone number and address or e-mail: [email protected].

Another option:  For only a $5 donation Christmas trees can be dropped off at our recycling site located across the street from Long’s in Kihei on the corner of Pi’ikea Avenue & South Kihei Rd.  Malafu Contractors we will be chipping trees right on site and bags of chipped evergreen will be available to purchase.

All proceeds benefit the Kihei/Wailea Boy Scout Troop #22.  Mahalo for doing your part to sustain our paradise and help Troop #22!
