Project Backpack “Equipped to Learn”
The Kiwanis Club of the Valley Isle’s Project Backpack is a community effort to provide a backpack and basic school supplies to Maui’s children of families in need. The needs of the Maui community are growing due to issues such as homelessness, drug abuse, spousal abuse, and poor economy that results in loss of jobs, etc. Kiwanis Club partners with agencies who have a proven record in helping such families and children in the community. They have an ongoing effort to gather the resources needed to provide these backpacks – through sponsors that contribute financially and businesses that donate supplies. This year, Kiwanis Club is fortunate to have Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center as a major sponsor of Project Backpack.
