Maui Teen’s Documentaries Strive To Inspire And Educate For A Better Tomorrow

While most 14 year old boys on Maui are surfing or playing video games, Jai Litman is editing his next environmental documentary.  His latest film deals with Maui’s invasive coqui frogs.  This will be his fourth short film in the space of two years, joining his expose of Bottle vs. Tap water, exploration of the benefits of electric cars on Maui, and a history of the saving of Oneloa (Makena Beach State Park).

Jai Litman discovered the joy of filmmaking at a young age making humorous shorts under the YouTube channel “Foolish Films”.  Upon moving to Maui, he found his way to the Maui Huliau Foundation, and thanks to their incredible environmental youth film making program, was introduced to a whole new world of films that can make a difference.

His latest film (created in collaboration with his good friend, Jason Schwien), “Saving Oneloa” has been selected for inclusion at this year’s Honolulu International Film festival.  It will be presented at the Dole Cannery Theaters at 10:30 am on October 20th.  Jai has been invited to present and speak about this film and environmental topics at the festival.

Jai has a passion to use his film’s to inspire others to make a difference for our environment.  As Ghandi said “Be the change you wish to see in the world”, and Jai is doing just that by making environmental documentaries here on the island of Maui.  In doing so he hopes to inspire us all, in particular to show those of his generation that they don’t have to wait to create positive change. He has a desire to one day make ” green” films for Discovery Channel, PBS and National Geographic.

At this time we need to raise funds in order to support getting him to the three film festivals “Saving Oneloa” has been accepted into this year.  You can go to his website to see more about Jai and you can donate directly through this paypal on his website.  We are asking our Maui community to support this keiki in continuing to make documentaries that matter.  His website is: https://bit.ly/jailitman
