The competition will feature keiki from kindergarten through 12th grade separated into three solo divisions and one group division. Judging the contest will be renowned Grammy and Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning musicians. Check-in begins at 8:15 am and will be followed by a keiki ukulele workshop at 8:45 am., then the competition at 9:30 am.
3 Day Moon Festival at the Wo Hing Museum
Celebrate the Chinese Moon Festival at the Wo Hing Museum in Lahaina, Thursday September 19th & Saturday September 21st from 10am-4pm and Friday September 20th from 1-8pm. This 3 day event commemorates one of the most important Chinese holidays where the moon is most bright and full, indicating a time of satisfaction and abundance.
Chef Gregory “Bonz” Heath will be conducting cooking demonstrations and sharing his culinary exclusive “Poly-Asian Noodle Bowl” featuring a unique blend of herbs & spices from his company “Lahaina Spice”. Authentic Dim Sum will be sold from Fu Lin Restaurant as Polynesian Farms presents an array of organic fruits and vegetables at the Farmers Corner. Cultural exhibits and displays as well as hands on activities, including Knot Tying by Brenda Wong, will be available for all ages to enjoy. Qigong demonstrations and a special Moon goddess presentation will be given by Cory Williams and Dr. Busaba Yip-Douglas. Live music will be provided by Hong-Zhu & Karl Jacobs as they perform on the ancient Chinese instrument “Erhu”. Gifts and souvenirs will be available for purchase in the Museums’ “Mandarin Market” which also hosts the seasons’ most popular item “Moon Cakes”. Maui Mall Highlights Safety at September 22 Family Sundays Event
Free keiki IDs and safety-themed activities for the whole family
Maui Mall is highlighting safety at its free and monthly Family Sunday event on September 22 from noon to 2 p.m. The event will feature free keiki IDs, displays and presentations by Maui Fire Department, American Red Cross and more.
It will also include the popular student recognition and iPad Mini giveaway via teacher nomination, an eating contest, emergency preparedness family scavenger hunt (must be led by an adult) and onstage trivia by Read Aloud America – all are opportunities to win lots of prizes. The winning family of the scavenger hunt will receive a $100 gift card from Longs Drugs.

Student winners chosen between the months of March and November will have a chance to win a MacBook Air notebook on January 26, 2014 during the Maui Mall Family Sundays finale event.
Last month, Maui Mall awarded Lihikai Elementary School fourth-grader Caitlyn Riopta an iPad Mini. She was nominated by her teacher Reid Fukushima who called her responsible, intelligent, modest and kind.
“Caitlyn shows great leadership skills and has the ability to get along well with everyone she meets,” said Fukushima. “She studies hard and always turns in her work on time. … When doing her work she will go over and beyond what is required of her.”
Riopta serves as classroom treasurer and has won the Surfer of the Month award and Positive Action reward. She is involved in Girls Scouts and takes piano lessons.
