Trilogy’s Blue’aina & Friends Tsunami Reef/Relief Event

Sunday April 3rd, Ma’alaea Harbor— This Sunday, Trilogy’s Blue’aina Campaign will hold its biggest cleanup to date out of Ma’alaea Harbor. Action kicks off at 9am and will go till1pm. The cleanup will include efforts on both land and sea. Boat participants donate $20 per person and will take their efforts outside the harbor to dive, snorkel and pick up trash/debris. Boats committed to sponsoring this event are Trilogy Excursions and Mahana Na’ia.

Land participants will meet at the break wall and be given plastic gloves and bags (you are encouraged to bring your own as well), to help in collecting debris and other pollutants the tsunami washed up. Participants can walk the break wall collecting trash, or choose to snorkel/scuba dive from shore to find trash. Between the boats cleaning the reefs outside the harbor, and the land participants cleaning from the break wall, Blue’aina will have surface support in the form of an outrigger canoe, kayaks and water safety officers on SUP’s from Hawaiian Paddle Sports to assist participants and haul the trash back in. Another kama‘aina company, Aloha Waste Systems have donated the use and removal of a dumpster to effectively deal with debris collected. It’s a win-win situation.

The first wave of boats goes out from 9 am to noon. A second wave of boats will leave the harbor at 1 pm, for a 1.5-hr whale watch cruise, for the land participants ($20 donation). Lunch will be provided for all participants by Stella Blues, Maui Flavors Catering, Beach Bums, Outback Steakhouse and Trilogy Excursions.

The Blue’aina campaign, started in 2009 by Trilogy’s first mates, donate all proceeds to the non-profits: Surfrider Foundation, Project S.E.A Link, and other marine-conservation programs. This is Blue’aina’s 16th consecutive monthly cleanup. All efforts will help Maui’s harbor/reefs as well as our friends in Japan, as all proceeds from the event will be split between Surfrider’s Japan chapter and Mercy Corps. Trilogy, in addition to leading the event and co-sponsoring boat/food, has offered to match dollar for dollar the money earned for Tsunami Relief in Japan– Finally taking action locally also helps globally!
