Online Fun
Maui Ocean Center has announced closing through the end of May. In good news, a small band of volunteers in collaboration with Cultural Advisor Dan Maxwell created the Ocean Education Classroom to provide families with educational resources. Tune in on Monday, 3/23/20 for the Hawaiian Word of the Week, along with marine-themed storytelling, coloring sheet downloads, and fun, at-home crafting. For ages 5-12. Maui Tumblers is currently posting videos of fun and active games, stretches, and gymnastics drills on their social media. Follow them on Facebook or Instagram and get your bodies moving.
Stay Home
Events across the island have either postponded or canceled, including the Valley Isle Keiki Fest. Event organizers already have their eye to the future and shared, “We hope to see you at our next event on April 10, 2021.” Freddie’s Birthday Party, scheduled for April 11th, was also cancelled at the Maui Humane Society. The Maui Arts & Cultural Center, Maui OnStage, and Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center have all suspended programming until further notice.
If you need to leave your home, the best practice is to call ahead to prevent any needless travel. Many places have either temporarily closed or are operating on limited hours at the moment per Mayor Victorino’s Public Health Emergency Rules for Maui County. The State of Hawaii has launched a new website — www.hawaiicovid19.com — to equip residents and visitors with information and resources to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community.
