We are now learning that some forms of fat are good for our bodies and our skin is no exception. Since it’s the  largest organ in our body and the most noticeable, we want it to look it’s best.

Fatty Acids are primarily made up of Omega 3 and Omega 6. These acids have garnered a lot of attention lately because of their importance in cell health. However, the modern diet is full of Arachidonic Acid from Omega 6 and as much Omega 3. This results in an imbalance that can create  inflammation of skin cells (acne), breast cancer, heart disease and asthma.

Another form of Omega 6, known as gamma linolenic acid (GLA) is favorable for cell growth, anti-inflammation, as well as reproductive, skin, and immune system health. Both ingesting and topically applying Omega 3 and GLA Omega 6 to the body is healthy for skin because they help maintain moisture, support membrane function, and help with age spots and elasticity.

Omega 3 acids are best found in flaxseed oil, cod liver oil, Chia seeds and Kiwi seeds. Omega 6 GLA’s are found in Borage oil and Evening Primrose oil. Evening Primrose also has a lot of phytosterol which is useful in fighting the aging symptoms of wrinkles from collagen loss.
