“I absolutely love this ballet!” says artistic director Absalon Figueroa. “It is grandiose, elegant, magical, exciting, and Tchaikovsky’s score inspires beautiful storytelling through dance. Our production features dances based on Marius Petipa’s original choreography, as well as original choreography by AAPA teachers.”

Executive Director Danelle Watson reflects, “We originally started working on this production of The Sleeping Beauty in 2020 and are incredibly thrilled to be in an indoor theater. It has been 3 years since our dancers performed in an indoor theater with a live audience. Seabury Hall has been incredibly supportive of our organization and continues to help provide space for us to perform. Absalon, our artistic director, is creating a unique version of the beloved story to fit our academy’s needs. He is closely attached to this music and ballet since performing in the orchestra and on stage as a dancer with the Orlando Ballet. I have been more motivated to create an outlet for our students and community since covid-19 because I see the value of daily mental health for our students and the ability to connect with the community affects me positively too. I am so proud of our academy, not only for the quality of productions we create but also for how we interact and engage with our students daily.”

In addition to the story of Sleeping Beauty, shows two and four will begin with Opening Entertainment, showcasing AAPA’s tap, jazz, hip hop, musical theater, and acting students.
